Kotor (Котор, Cattaro) is a coastal town in a secluded part of the Bay of Kotor.
The old Mediterranean port of the city is surrounded by fortifications built during the Venetian period.
Kotor is part of the World Heritage Site dubbed the Natural and Culturo-Historical Region of Kotor, designated in 1979 and extended in 2012 and 2015.
The fortified city was also added in 2017 to UNESCO's World Heritage Site list as part of Venetian Works of Defence between 16th and 17th centuries: Stato da Terra – western Stato da Mar.
