Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, who was one of the leading members of the failed 20 July plot of 1944 to kill Adolf Hitler and remove the Nazi Party from power in World War II Germany, lived most of the time of his youth here.

Here he stayed and rested after he came back from the hospital in Munich. He was seriously wounded in an attack by British fighter planes on 7 April 1943 while he was driving from unit to unit. Stauffenberg lost his left eye, his right hand, and two fingers on his left hand.

Today it's owned by the city of Lautlingen. It's now a museum and has a Stauffenberg Memorial.
