Hobson's Conduit Monument

Thomas Hobson, with others, had an idea to bring fresh water from Nine Wells into the centre of the city of Cambridge using a specially constructed watercourse that became known as Hobson's Conduit. Parts of the watercourse can still be seen and where Brookside meets Lensfield Road there is a monument to Hobson's Conduit. The monument was part of a fountain that was fed by the conduit and located in the Market Square. It was moved to this location in 1856 after a fire in the market.
