The officially published geographic center of North America is at 48 10' N, 100 10' W, placing it in a muddy pond next to Kilgore Lake.
The city of Rugby to the north-northeast is home to a stone pillar at the Conoco station at the intersection of US-2 and ND Rt 3 commemorating the center. Although the published 1930 definition of the center is some 15 miles away, the state of North Dakota prefers to argue that geographic centers are not consistently defined or measurable, therefore Rugby's main intersection is an adequate estimate.
