Milford Sound is a fjord on New Zealand's southern island. The Maori used the area for fishing and recreation. Outsiders discovered the fjord in 1812 when Welsh Captain John Grono found it and named it Milford Haven. Later, British sea Captain, John Lort Stokes renamed it Milford Sound.
