Description:Monument Square is the center of activities in Racine. It was originally called Haymarket Square. The name was changed to Monument Square with the dedication of the 61 foot high Civil War Soldiers Memorial in 1884. Monument Square hosts many activities such as: Music at the Monument, Friday lunchtime outdoor concerts; Summer Nights at the Square Saturday evening concerts; and Micros on the Monument. Monument Square is also the focalpoint of all downtown events including: Party on the Pavement, First Fridays and Winterfest. In addition to the Civil War Soldiers Memorial, Monument Square also has monuments to the escaped slave Joshua Glover and Old Abe, the Case Eagle.
