Sardinia Radio Telescope

The Sardinia Radio Telescope (SRT) is a challenging scientific project proposed and managed by the Institute of Radioastronomy (IRA, Bologna) of the National Council of Research (CNR) in collaboration with the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF). The project is funded by the Italian Ministry of Education and Scientific Research and supported by the Sardinia Region Local Council.

The goal of the SRT project is to construct a general purpose, fully steerable, 64-m diameter paraboloidal radio telescope capable to operate with high efficiency in a wide frequency range (from 0.3 to 100 GHz).

The telescope that is going to be built in Sardinia will be the third, most important, node of the Italian Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) network but it will be also a powerful instrument when used on its own as a single-dish radio telescope.
