Stafford Castle (Birds Eye)
The castle overlooks the town of Stafford in Staffordshire. A castle was originally built on the site circa 1090 by the Normans to control the still hostile and rebellious native Anglo-Saxon community following their invasion in 1066 and the failed rebellion which culminated in the defeat of the Saxons at the battle of Stafford in 1069. The stone building is an important early example of a 19th century Gothic Revival Keep.
