The Federal University of Pernambuco (Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, UFPE) is a public university located in Recife, Brazil, and established in 1946. UFPE has 63 undergraduate courses and 175 postgraduate courses. As of 2006, UFPE had near 25,000 students and about 2,000 professors. The university has three campi: Recife, Vitória de Santo Antão and Caruaru.

Its main campus, known as Cidade Universitária (Universitary City), is locate on the west of the city, next to the Várzea neighborhood. The Law School or Faculty of Law is located in the downtown.

UFPE is the seventh Brazilian federal university in size and scientific production. Over 25,000 students are signed.

It was elected twice as the best University of North and North-East of Brazil by Guia do Estudante national university ranking magazine and Banco Real (ABN AMRO). The University is also elected between the 12 best universities in Brazil.

Today it has 10 centers in 149 hectares of main campus area, in Recife.
