To the commenter above who lived in Parco Azzuro from 71-74. I had many of the same teachers you had. I had Mr Richards for 5th grade from 71-72. We may have been in the same class! I think he actually wore those 60's Nehru jackets instead of kimonos. I hadn't thought of that in years. The Stanley's were good friends of ours and his son Jay (who was your and my age) and I had regular sleepovers. Mr Stanley lives in the SF Bay area now but I've lost track of Jay.
1969-1973... I remember going to the big pool on AFSOUTH and listening to Niel Young and America on the PA system, the snack bar in the basement of the NSA building, the anticipation of Toyland opening every year, those big tourist buses they used for school buses, the Boy Scout troop on AFSOUTH, the big playground next to the school, and going to the matinee movies at AFSOUTH before heading up the hill to bowl on the junior bowling leagues.
Cool. As a child this was my favorite movie. We hardly ever went to the movies but somehow I ended up seeing this four times when it first came out. Thanks for dredging up those old memories.
Bruce, you and I probably rode the same school bus at the same time. I lived in Arco Feliche too. Got on and off at the 'piazza' stop. Big gravel lot with a trash dump. I was there from 69 through 73. I'd have been in 6th grade at Forrest Sherman in the fall of 72 - spring of 73. Small world.

I really like this. Under most scavenger hunt rules this would count. This time however one of the only rules was you couldn't use pictures, etc. It had to be actual Google Imagery of the person smoking the hookah. I'm sorry.
I am pretty sure it is an abandoned section of Mulberry Harbor from WWII. The wiki on the Mulberry Harbour states, "...a section of it remains embedded in the sand in the Thames Estuary, accessible at low tide, about 1 km off the coast of the military base at Shoeburyness."
The parking lot on the other side of the wall to the east has an amazing collection of street art including Banksy's pink 280Z with the skeleton in it.
You're on a roll with these postcard-like thumbnails. I really like them. If selecting them weren't so subjective they'd make a great Safari. Thanks for posting them.
The smell of sulfer was from Sulfatara volcano a few miles to the west. The old American Hotel was across the street and a few hundred feet to the East. Forrest Sherman Elementary School.

A few safaris and scavenger hunts had this but no one had much luck finding one.
Great find.

Great catch!
Looking out across the rooftops it is almost spooky the profusion of satellite TV dishes.
