Today in History – August 4

1944 – The Brittany American Cemetery contains the remains of 4,410 US war dead, most of whom lost their lives in the Normandy and Brittany campaigns of 1944, is opened.

2010 – A severe thunderstorm, classified as a “down burst” by the National Weather Service, pushed through the Wheeling area knocking the WWVA’s 3 tower array to the ground.
