Part of the 6th generation of Honda Accords, a facelift was given for the sedan and coupe in September 2000 for the 2001 model year. LX and LX-V6 models now had CD players as standard, and broke the trend of 4-year cycles for redesigns (2 for the initial product and 2 for the mid-generation facelift) because this generation ran for 5 years in total due the 2001 model year marking the 6th generation's 4th year.

Like the 7th generation Civic Coupe I captured in Philadelphia, Honda Accords from this model year up to the 2012 model year are known to have defective airbags made by Takata, in which the 2001-2002 models carry the dangerous "Alpha" airbags that were responsible for most fatalities from the shrapnel-spewing airbags due to potent ammonium nitrate involved in making the airbag react.
