On Wednesday 3rd April 2024 at 10:09 UTC, Jürgen ON3UA, a radio amateur from Belgium made contact with Andy GI7SQW/P, a radio amateur from East Anglia in England, who was operating from the Bann Estuary SAC (GIFF-0085) on the 40m amateur radio band. Andy made at total of 224 contacts while at the reserve.
The Bann Estuary is a Special Area of Conservation in County Londonderry in Northern Ireland covering 348.37 hectares. It was designated as a SAC for its important dune, salt-marsh, wet grassland and fen habitats which demonstrate a rare natural transition between these areas.
