On Wednesday 21st June 2023, Jonathan W5JMG, a radio amateur from Vancleave, MS reached the summit of Black Mountain and became the first to activate this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.

He made 11 contacts in total working on the 20m amateur radio band.
