There are a number of makers at the side of the carriageway to indicate the Border.
When travelling north from Staffordshire into Cheshire there is a large white rectangular sign with a light green border above a green rectangular sign.
The white sign displays a “Welcome to Cheshire” message in large green letters, in the top right-hand corner of which is the logo of the Cheshire East Council.
The green sign has picture of a larger yellow flower on which a Bee has alighted on the left-hand side and the message “Home of England’s Finest Gardens” in large white letters. on the right-hand side.
When travelling south from Cheshire into Staffordshire there are three signs the top one shows the Arms of the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme below which is displayed the message “Welcome to the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme". Next is a sign displaying the name “Butt Lane” and at the bottom is a large white rectangular sign with a picture of a “Staffordshire Knot” (the County’s historic symbol) below which is the message “Welcome to Staffordshire”.
