Christ Church in Laxey was built between 1856 to the designs of Ewan Christian.
This small church was built as a chapel of ease by The Laxey Mining Company as the Parish Church was somewhat distant from the village. The style of the church has been described as ‘stripped-down Gothic’ and features narrow lancet windows in the early English style.
Christian received the Royal Institute of British Architects Royal Gold Medal for Architecture in 1887. The Gold Medal is award on behalf to the Crown in recognition of Scott’s work major contribution to international architecture. The Gold Medal is given for a body of work rather than in recognition of the excellence of a single building.
