The Postal Comuta-Van was born out of a contract between Commuter Cars under the USPS and the U.S. government in 1979, 2 years after the production of the original Sebring-Vanguard CitiCar ended, and continued to be produced for postal delivery up until 1982. This was the only variant of the 2,144 CitiCars that were produced under this new venture that came with sliding doors. The wedge-shaped vehicle's 72-volt battery pack produced just 12 horsepower, a far cry from what hypercars with larger batteries boast, like Rimac's C_Two for example. At the time, electric vehicles have yet to achieve mainstream success, which would be done so by vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf and the Tesla Model S.
