The Ekati Diamond Mine is Canada's first operational diamond mining operation. It is located on Lac de Gras at 64°41′56″N, 110°36′53″W, 300 km north-east of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, and about 200km south of the Arctic circle. Ekati is a joint venture between BHP Billiton Diamonds Inc. (80%), and the two geologists who discovered kimberlite pipes north of Lac de Gras, Chuck Fipke (10%) and Stewart Blusson (10%).
