Gentoo penguins

Gentoo penguins (StreetView)
A large colony of gentoo penguins in Sandy Bay on Bleaker Island in the southeast of the Falkland Islands.

Distinguishing features of gentoo penguins are characterized a band of white feathers extending across the top of their heads from just above each eye, a black throat, a brush tail and a bill that is mostly deep orange or red.

The gentoo penguins found on the Falkland Islands are from the larger subspecies of gentoo penguin, (Pygoscelis papua papua), which is found further north than the other subspecies, Pygoscelis papua ellsworthi) which inhabits true polar regions.
