The Howardian Hills NL (GFF-0254) covers 20,400 hectares in the north-east of England between the Vale of York, the North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Wolds. It was designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty ("ANOB")in 1987.

Forming a distinctive, clearly defined geographical area, The Howardian Hills consist of wooded ridges, plateaux, hills, undulating countryside with several prominent limestone scarps.
