The statue of John Bunyan stands at St Peter's Green in Bedford. It was sculpted by Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm and erected in 1874. The unveiling was a major occasion with 10000 people attending from all parts of the United Kingdom and overseas. Three bronze reliefs, from scenes in "The Pilgrims Progress", are set into the statue's plinth.
