On Saturday 30th July 2022 a group of French radio amateurs using the callsign TM1SOTA reached the summit of Le Grand Cheval de Bois and activated this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group. The special callsign “TM1SOTA” was being used to mark the occasion of the 15th anniversary of SOTA.
They made 85 contacts in total working on the 2 metre VHF and the 60, 40, 30 20 and 17 metre HF amateur radio bands.
The summit of Le Grand Cheval de Bois is 2838 metres (9311 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA groups database.
