The earth dam of Maojiacun is claimed to be the second in the world and the largest earth dam in Asia. In the 1950s, the State Hydropower Administration and Soviet experts surveyed and selected the site. One hundred thousand troops constructed the site in 1958 and completed the project in ten years.
It has a height of 80 meters and a crest length of 463 meters.
