On Friday 8th September 2023, Herbert N7HG & Charlie NJ7V, two radio amateurs from the state of Arizona, reached the summit of Matthews Peak and became the first to activate this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.

They made 48 contacts in total working on the 40m and 20m amateur radio bands.

The summit of Matthews Peak is 2911 metres (9551 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA group database.
