Maynooth University in County Kildare has over 9,000 students and 800 staff, it is renowned for its research and scholarship and in its short history has established a strong international reputation.

Maynooth University is one of the four constituent universities which combine to form the National University of Ireland. It became an independent university in 1997 although its origins go back to 1795 and the founding of the Royal College of St. Patrick as a seminary for the education of priests.

The college is today a Pontifical university and is still associated with Maynooth University although the two are quite separate universities.

The university offers a range of academic programmes in the humanities, science and engineering, and social sciences, including business, law, and education at undergraduate, Masters and PhD level.

The university with its unusually diverse disciplinary strengths in humanities, science, social science, and engineering combine make it a leading research institution in areas including artificial intelligence; life sciences; climate change; and issues of societal cohesion and division.
