MBTA #4126 - Trackless Trolley (Trolley Bus)

MBTA #4126 - Trackless Trolley (Trolley Bus) (StreetView)
MBTA #4126 was one of the 28 Neoplan trolley buses with Skoda electrics which were delivered new to the Massachusetts Bay Transport Authority in 2003/4 and last ran in the Boston area on 12 March 2022.

The trackless trolleys are ultimately to be replaced by all-electric buses but until 2024 the replacements will be diesel hybrid buses.

An unusual feature of the MBTA’s Neoplan trolley buses is the placement of ta passenger door on the left-hand side of the vehicles which was required for their operation in the underground sections of the network.

The last trackless trolley to enter the MBTA depot was MBTA #4121. The first trolley buses in Boston were introduced 1945 when 157 Pullmann-Standard vehicles entered service.
