Mount Sunflower in Wallace County at 4,039 feet above seal level is the highest point in Kansas. It is close to the State Line with Colorado and is 3,300 feet higher than the State’s lowest point (679 feet) which lies on the opposite side of State to the south of Coffeyville in Montgomery County where the Verdigris River exits the State into Oklahoma.
Sunflower is not a true mountain as it barely distinguishable from the surrounding terrain. This makes Kansas unique as the only State in the Union without a summit listed in the Summits on the Air (SOTA) database. The elevation of the State only gradually rises from east to west.
