Nature Reserve Karwendel und Karwendelvorgebirge (DLFF-0173)

On Friday 29th March 2024 at 11:32 UTC, Mike G3VQQ, a radio amateur from Yorkshire in the north of England, made contact with Andy DL2DVE, a radio amateur from Germany, who was operating using the callsign of the SOTA Deutsche Apen Radio Club. Andy was operating from the Nature Reserve Karwendel und Karwendelvorgebirge (DLFF-0173), on the 20m amateur radio band.

Nature Reserve Karwendel und Karwendelvorgebirge (DLFF-0173), is a protected area of 19,346 hectares lying south of the city of Munich in Germany and north of Innsbruck, in Austria. It was designated in 1983 as a Nature Reserve and is an IUCN Management Category IV area.

An IUCN Management Category IV area is an area to protect particular species or habitats and are managed to prioritise this objective.

Andy was at the summit of Rosskopf (1131 metres asl) while he was at the reserve and made a total of 66 contacts for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.
