On Wednesday 3rd April 2024 at 09:06 UTC, Mike G3VQQ, a radio amateur from West Yorkshire in the north-east of England, made contact with Libor OK1DU/P, a radio amateur from the Czech Republic, who was operating from NPR Velký a Malý Bezděz (OKFF-0143), on the 20m amateur radio band.
NPR Velký a Malý Bezděz (OKFF-0143)]Big and Little Bezděz], is a protected area of 28.1122 hectares, which lies to the north-east of Prague in the Czech Republic. It was designated as a National Nature Reservation in 1933 and is an IUCN Management Category III area.
An IUCN Management Category III area is set aside to protect a specific natural monument. Examples of natural monuments include a landform, sea mount, submarine cavern, geological feature e.g. a cave or a living feature e.g. an ancient grove. These areas are often quite small but have a high visitor value.
