On Sunday 10th September 2023, Doug PY1II, a radio amateur from Petropolis, Brazil, reached the summit of Pedra do Taquaril and became the first to activate this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.

He made 21 contacts in total working on the 40m, 20m, 15m and 10m amateur radio bands.

The summit of Pedra do Taquaril is 1869 metres (6132 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA group database.
