Plasencia Cigars traces its roots back to 1865 when Don Eduardo Plasencia started growing tobacco in Vuelta Abajo, Cuba after arriving from the Canary Islands. In 1963 the company fled to Mexico due to the Castro regime in Cuba. In 1965, Don Elder Sixto moved to the fertile soils of Nicaragua and in 1978 to Honduras. Today Nestor Plascencia runs the operation, making over 40 million cigars a year with over 6,000 employees, four factories and 8 plantations.
