On Tuesday 2nd April 2024 at 09:31 UTC, Markus HB9DDZ, a radio amateur from Switzerland made contact with Tony M5OTA/P, a radio amateur from south-west England who was operating from the Shropshire Hills NL (GFF-0269) on the 10m amateur radio band.

A National Landscape Area (NLA) is a region in England which is designated for its exceptional natural beauty, cultural significance, or historical importance. NLAs are protected and managed to preserve their unique character and promote sustainable use.

The Shropshire Hills NL (GFF-0269), covers 80,200 hectares between the English Midlands plains and the Welsh borders . It stretches from the Stiperstones across to the Clee Hills and from the Wrekin to the Clun Forest. It was designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty ("ANOB")in 1958.

Tony was at the summit of The Wrekin (407 metres asl) while he was at the NLA and made a total of 11 contacts for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.
