Toyota RAV4 EV (XA10)

Toyota RAV4 EV (XA10) (StreetView)
The electric version of the XA10 Toyota RAV4 was first released in 1997 on a lease-only basis to California fleets. While underpowered compared to modern standards, only capable of reaching 60 mph in 18 seconds before hitting a top speed of 78 mph, its NiMH battery, while good for 95 miles and 43 kwH/100 mile (~78 MPGe), it has proved to be very reliable, with some units crossing 150,000 miles on a single battery. In fact, prototype units in Japan have been tested for 300,000 miles (480,000 km) over 2 years before its stateside debut. A corporate policy change allowed for 328 EVs to be sold to the general public between March and November 2002, thus making for a final total of 1,484 units leased and/or sold overall.
