The Moxotó Hydroelectric Power Plant, built in 1971, is located about three kilometers upstream of the dam of the Paulo Afonso I, II and III Power Plants, in the municipality of Delmiro Gouveia in Alagoas.

It was inaugurated in 1975. In 1983, it was renamed Usina Apolônio Sales, in honor of Apolônio Jorge de Faria Sales (1904-1982) who was minister in the government of Getúlio Vargas, senator of the Republic and president of Chesf.
