On Wednesday 17th August 2022, Chip K2KJD and Walt KK4DF two radio amateurs from North Carolina reached the summit of Walnut Mountain and activated this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.

They made 44 contacts in total working on the 40, 30, 20 and 17 metre HF amateur radio bands.

The summit of Walnut Mountain is 1311 metres (4301 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA group database.
