That medallion is not made of stone. It's actually, a special type of colored aluminum, with clear resin and glass beads to create the shading effects. The design is made from angled brass that was cut and shaped to make the design. The concept was designed and created by a gentleman named Harold Banker, a designer based out of southern New Jersey at the time. Harold and his son personally built and installed the medallion over 2 days while the museum was being constructed.
