edv pictureAirplane - Three shots of the same Lufthansa 747 near Frankfurt
Why are there 3 shots of the same plane...taken a few seconds apart?
On the highway below the plane, I can only see vehicles duplicated once, not twice like the 747.
Anyone know why?

Qaddafi's compound lies just to the south, about hlafway to the next roundabout.
The 'Landscaping' that you see is simply grass and interlocking bricks. It took them ages to do it.

That nifty building just to the NW is pyramid shaped. It is the Centre to Research into the Green Book (or something like that) and there is an exact, identical building in Benghazi.

The big sign is actually in Arabic.

Walked through this neighbourhood the other day and noticed this.

There are some buildings in the vicinity which remain destroyed.

Oddly enough, there is a house just a few hundred yards from here which is also destroyed, but not from the bombing....it was destroyed by the powers that be as punishment to the occupants, supposedly a high ranking but conspiratorial military figure and his family.

True enough, Bubble. They needed a good supply of fresh water, which Botany Bay did not provide.
I intentionally glossed over that fact for the sake of being brief.
But all they did was 'anchor' in Botany Bay, so it's really just semantics.

edv pictureBill Emerson Memorial Bridge
The old bridge was demolished in the fall of 2004.
As I recall, the demolition did not go well, and parts of the old bridge collapsed into the river, disrupting the barge traffic.

The pic that I submitted for this map was taken days before the incident.

Wow, a '10' :)

If you follow the pipes, you will find many other collecting ponds.
They all seem to be 900-1000m across. There are 2 just SE of Benghazi, and others to the west.

I saw this pipeline being built, and you wouldn't believe the sheer size of the pipe segments, and the convoys of tractor trailer trucks...dozens and dozens of them...each carrying 1 segment. I have some pictures from 1993 lying around that I might scan if I can find them.

I believe that these are holding ponds for water for the Great Manmade River Project. The ancient water is pumped from the acquifer. The big pipe lies just to the west beside the road, and can be followed all the way north to another big holding pond, where the pipe splits to go north to Benghazi and west to Tripoli.

The lighter green ones to the south are at the Kufrah Oasis. They are likely irrigated fields.

In Libya, when you order a big bottle of water at a...

If you'd typed 'concorde' in the search box, you will have seen all of that and more.

I've been to Tunisia many times, and I can tell you that Tatooine is there.

edv pictureBay Bridge
There is a NEW Bay Bridge going up right next to this one. You can see it in Google Earth on the Oakland side of the bay.
It will be earthquake resistant to a quake 10 times more powerful than the Loma Priata, which caused a deck on this Bay Bridge to collapse in 1989(?).

Ah yes, Google Earth must have the newer map, not Google Maps.
I wonder why they do not share the same imagery?
I've just submitted pics of the 2 Concordes at Heathrow, which are easily visible in Google Earth, yet Google Maps still shows very low-resolution imagery for Heathrow. Hmmm.

Well, they just updated the pic of JFK airport in NYC, so the Concorde is now GONE!
