As I've said, it'll likely be no quicker than waiting for the train to pass and then crossing at road level. There doesn't appear to be any reason for a train to stop there either.

The 'Outer Barrier' which now contains the 'lagoon' is in fact the third such barrier. Near the middle of the lagoon can be seen an earlier barrier which collapsed shortly after completion due to the mining activity beneath. The first barrier was simply wooden and was constructed just inland of the second barrier and approximately following the natural coastline. I'm not sure what 'closed' means but the airfield is still in regular use! The owners use it for their own private flights and it has been the base for the Lakes Gliding Club (http://www.lakesgc.co.uk/) for decades.
