The Boiling Nuclear Superheater (BONUS) reactor was built in Rincon, Puerto Rico by the Atomic Energy Commission (with assistance from the Puerto Rico Water Resources Authority). It went on-line in April of 1964, and was generating full power in 1965. Technical difficulties and the need for expensive modifications led to its shutdown in 1968 and subsequent decommissioning.
