Former British Museum Underground Station

British Museum was a tube station in London on the Central Line. The station was opened in 1900, but closed in 1933 due to the epansion of Holborn Station that was less than 100 yards away. Even though the station permanently closed it was used as a millitary office and compound post during WWII. The station was named after the nearby British Museum on Great Russell Street.


What's left today:
In 1989 the station building was demolished, so the station is no longer enterable from ground level. The remains of the station underground have also been demolished. A small portion of the eastbound platform still remains though, but is being used to store sleepers and other parts of track. This can be seen from passing trains going through the site.
