“The Wrestlers”

“The Wrestlers”

Birmingham, United Kingdom (GB)
“The Wrestlers” by E. Bainbridge-Copnall is an abstract stone sculpture on the Edgbaston campus of the University of Birmingham. It is outside the Mechanical and Civil Engineering department of the University.

The sculpture is made from granite, a hard and unforgiving stone and yet it is being used here to create the impression of the wrestler's fluid movements as they grapple together.

Creation of the sculpture was funded by subscription from graduates of the School of Thermodynamics as a memorial for Professor Bannister who taught at the School between 1951 and 1974
