On Friday 8th March 2024 at 20:49 UTC, Stan ZF9CW a radio amateur from the Cayman Islands recorded on the GMA Dashboard (www.cqgma.org/ds2001.php) that Norm N9MM a radio amateur from Cleveland, TX was operating from Aransas National Wildlife Refuge (KFF-0541) on the 20m amateur radio band.

The Aransas National Wildlife Refuge is on the Texas coast north-east of Corpus Christi.

The refuge is the winter home for the last flock of wild whooping cranes, a critical endanger species. The refuge also boasts a variety of resident wildlife and other migratory birds.

The refuge covers approximately 115,000 acres and visitors can enjoy a variety of recreational activities in the beautiful natural scenery.
