CREEM magazine moved from rural Novi, MI closer to Detroit in 1973 and settled in quaint Birmingham. They remained in the Theater Building until 1986. In 2015, the Birmingham Museum acquired a significant collection of memorabilia and recognized this significant location for its contribution to rock music.
Chad Smith(Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer) grew up nearby and, according to the 2019 documentary, "Creem: America’s Only Rock ’n’ Roll Magazine," when he paid attention to the magazine masthead was shocked that it was close enough to ride his bike. As he arrived, his jaw dropped as Alice Cooper was exiting the building.
