On Sunday 24th March 2024 at 10:23 UTC, Fred DL8DXL, a radio amateur from Germany made contact with Jany LZ1GJ/P, a radio amateur from Bulgaria who was operating from the summit of Samantepe (1133m asl) in Dobrostan (LZFF-0630) on the 20m amateur radio band. Jany made a total of 12 contact while he was at the summit.
Dobrostan (LZFF-0630), is a protected area of 83,655 hectares located in southern Bulgaria south-east of the city of Plovdiv . It was designated as a Special Protection Area (Birds Directive) in 2007 and is part of the Natura 2000 network.
Natura 2000 aims to protect many of Europe's most vulnerable and threatened habitats and species. In Dobrostan (LZFF-0630) the conservation of Egyptian, Black and Griffon vultures is of particular importance.
