Galgenberg Rechnitz (OEFF-0412)

On Monday 25th March 2024 at 11:42 UTC, Fri DL4FDM, a radio amateur from Germany made contact with Greg OE1GOA/4, a radio amateur from Austria who was operating from Galgenberg Rechnitz (OEFF-0412) on the 40m amateur radio band. Greg made a total of 159 contact while he was at the reserve.

Galgenberg Rechnitz (OEFF-0412), is a protected area of 9 hectares lying in southern Austria close to the Hungarian border and north-west of the city of Szombathely in Hungary . It was designated as a Nature Reserve in1987 and is an IUCN Management Category IV area.

An IUCN Management Category IV area is an area to protect particular species or habitats and are managed to prioritise this objective.

This reserve has the distinction as Burgenland's largest area of dry grassland. The dry grassland has arisen largely as the result of human activity.
