Gergeti Trinity Church is west of the small town of Stepantsminda which is in the northeast of Georgia not far from the Russian border. The church sits on a ridge which is loomed over by the huge bulk of Mount Kazbek.

The church which is the only cross-cupola church in the province of Khevi date from the 14th century. The separate bell tower is also from the 14th century but was built after the church.

The church is a very popular tourist attraction and since 2018 has been accessible by car following the construction of a tarmac road to the base of the church.
