The waterfall is located near to the village of Gveleti approximately 7km north from the town of Stepantsminda.

This the Greater Waterfall drops some 25 down a sheer cliff face from a notch which is about 2 metres wide at the bottom of the waterfall the flow of water has spread and is approximately 4 meters wide.

The Greater and the Lesser Gveleti Waterfalls are very popular tourist attractions and have many visitors each year.
