James W. Paul Jr. was a financier who was son-in-law of prominent Philadelphian, Anthony Drexel.
The home was built by famed Gilded Age architet, Horace Trumbauer.
The home was also owned by Dr. John T. Dorrance, president of Cambell Soup Company.
It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.
