Lake Victoria is one of the African Great Lakes. With a surface area of about 59,947 km2, Lake Victoria is Africa's largest lake by area, the world's largest tropical lake, and the world's 2nd-largest fresh water lake by surface area. Lake Victoria is the world's 9th-largest continental lake by volume, with roughly 2,424 km3 of water. The lake has an average depth of 40 m and a max depth of 80–84 m. Its catchment area is169,858 km2. The lake has a shoreline of 7,142 km.
