Under the Act a burial ground is any churchyard or chapel yard or cemetery, and any burial place in or under a church or chapel, and any place ordinarily used for interments, and a parish burial Ground is any burial ground in a parish which is not a private burial ground. It can therefore be seen that the Kirk Lezayre church wardens are responsible for the maintenance of the burial ground and that this burial ground is the public burial ground for the parish.

Being a public burial ground means that any resident of the parish has the right to buried there on their demise and that they don’t have to be members of the Church of England.

This well-tended cemetery is currently open for new burials and features a garden of remembrance for display of plaques for those who wish to remember loved ones who have been cremated.

Alongside the boundary walls there are a numbered of dedicated benches which provide a welcome resting place to sit and reflect
